Public days: March 7 - 10, 2007
Chemould Prescott Road is delighted to present the works of seven artists, Tushar Joag, Anant Joshi, Jitish Kallat, Reena Saini Kallat, Hema Upadhyay, Dhruvi Acharya and Jagannath Panda (in our stall A-11) during the Gulf Art Fair from 7 to 10 March 2007 in Dubai. Each of the artists is from the Chemould stable of young thirty-something’s, having had their first solo exhibitions with Chemould. They also represent the younger generation of Indian artists that have seen the sudden boom in the market for Indian art since the past 6 years. Their works can be collectively characterized by a strong sense of figuration and an urgent response to an urban cultural identity that has become overwhelmingly dominated by imagery from a mediated world. While Hema Upadhyay’s and Dhruvi Acharya’s works might come from a more autobiographical place, Reena Kallat’s, Jitish Kallat’s, Tushar Joag’s and Anant Joshi’s works might take on greater social and political implications.
