Tempering is reaching a certain threshold of making the metal more malleable whilst still strong. Here, the artist has dissolved the line between the tools used to make art, and the art itself. This massive sculpture has used the tempered iron band saw blade in a seamless transitional language to express reaching a threshold point. Threshold can interpreted as middle line between action and inaction, mortality and immortality, self and outside areas of the self.
