The template of a ladder evokes notion of the mythical axis mundi connecting two realms; its rungs evoking branches on a tree or niches in rock allowing foothold to ascend or descend. Handcrafted and cast in pigmented resin, and assuming the form of a bamboo ladder, the sculpture ‘Vertical Chronicle of a Turbulent Equilibrium’ is punctuated by imagery derived from the sculptural reliefs of animals devouring each other that were referenced from the porch of the Victoria Terminus railway station in Mumbai, a building that two million people enter and exit every day. ‘Vertical Chronicle of a Turbulent Equilibrium’ is at once a playful sculpture and a solemn scripture appearing as if it were a found object.
