The film “Julus“ is a declara>on of the vision that each and every person has an equal right and freedom as an individual, and as part of a community as a whole. Within the space of this declara>on I have con>nued to address my concern, the viola>on of the female body in public and private spaces.
I have dived into the memory archive and histories and taken reference from the terracoXa warriors from China, to address my concerns. They stand and sit holding a spear or a sword (which is now not visible and needs to be imagined). As individuals these warriors speak of power, grace and valour, standing together as a group, as a baXalion, they also speak of strength and togetherness.
I pose as the warrior, unstoppable, fearless, powerful and free. Posing as such the female bodies with different cultures, histories, religions, and castes come together, celebra>ng their strength and glory. They join the Julus, they march together declaring the future they have created for themselves and the community, a future of freedom and equality.
