These works are clearly nourished by the traditions of engineering and architectural drawing. At one level, Navjot wishes to convey the sheer visual pleasure of retracing parts of these perfectly engineered strucures. After all, the principle of perfection can carry an abstract metaphysical charge: patterns of symmetry and repitition can offer the viewer a great sense of security and clarity. But she undercuts this promised fantasy of order with the playful caveat 'How perfect perfection can be' , which she borrows from Fred Astaire's eponymous foot-tapping number.
