The Medea project presents an example of a multi-layered interpretative activity - a Greek myth which is already commonly known among the Western educated is re-told with a political edge by German playwright Heiner Mueller who treats it as an allegory for the process of degradation and violence in times of colonial domination. Mueller's text is taken up for interpretation into materials and action by Malani and Samarth, and this combined 'performance' is again filmed by Malani as an independent work in itself.
